The army has given out, of late, that the war against terrorism is our own war and the danger to the country is not from the Eastern Frontier but from the Western Border. Previously, the MIU had declared BB (Shaheed ) a security risk because she showed some amicability towards India. This latest handout by the army proves my thesis that most of Pakistani generals are idiots. This is not a far cry but a Volta-face of what we have been hearing in the last sixty five years. Since the shift is too wide and not exactly true as the danger from eastern frontiers is a reality and we have already fought three wars on the eastern border So the volta-face is a tactical retreat by MIU in order to woo Uncle Sam.The message that this handout conveys to Uncle Sam is that we now realize that we have been in the wrong and see the wisdom in your strategy and are ready to take on your mission in Afghanistan after your pull-out provided we are set up in power for which we have already done some spadework by employing Qadri.
But the factor missed by MIU is that Uncle Sam does not have a short memory like canaille and still sharply remembers the perfidy and betrayal on her part with respect to Zaalimans. How can he forget that MIU inter alia, provided a hideout to Asama in one of the most sensitive areas despite a civil govt in office. Acquiescing to the arrogation of power by MIU is tantamount to giving her a free run of the country. How could Uncle Sam rely on such history - sheeters ? But MIU is trying her utmost to bring the things to such a pass that may persuade him to acquiesce in the takeover by her under the Doctrine Of Necessity. But since this is as difficult as squaring a circle and so is bound to crock up.
On the demise of her prime object the MIU could assassinate Qadri and lay the blame at Zardari s door since this mafia would stick at nothing in the pursuit of her idee fixe.

I say, JS Sahib, whoever Shaukat Jamil might be, he's certainly not devoid of imagination. And since this matter of TUQ is foremost in my preoccupations at the moment, it's great to be able to read someone who makes no bones about his antipathy for the guy and his backers. Whether it is the army or not, I haven't quite decided so far. Let's see what is in store for us in days ahead.

You have to wonder how incompetent these generals are
    1. They either hid the most wanted man in the world.
    2. Pakistan has no security if a foreign power can come in and conduct an operation in a major city without any impunity.
    3. What was Osama and his family doing in Pakistan?

Religion is bread and butter of a maulvi but nowadays it is cream to boot. But it is not there for the taking. One has to make some innovation to stand out among the crowd. So some imposture on the part of maulvi to look different from the herd is inevitable and is countenanced by the punters by way of toleration. But Qadri has crossed what even his craft brothers would call the frozen limit of sacrilege. In effect he has become a messenger of Allah in disguise by the agency of concocted dreams.
Muslims believe that anybody who visions the Prophet actually has the honor of his audience and whatever he listens from him is a word of Allah. So the populace have been receiving so many messages of Allah from Qadri via his dreams off and on. So to all intents and purposes he has been receiving WAHEE in a circuitous way. This dizzy height of pre-eminence attained by him could not be reached even by Khomeini. In fact he is almost there with Mirza Qadiyani.
All the same one of his dream is worth calling back to mind at this point of time. He said the Prophet manifested in his dream and told him that Allah had ordained a life of thirty three years for him but since he has been rendering cardinal service to the cause of Islam so he interceded with Allah to extend his life up to sixty six years so that he could accomplish his agenda in toto. Qadri claimed that he beseeched the Prophet to get the extension pared to sixty three years up to a maximum since he did not desire to live a life longer than lived by the Prophet himself. He further prayed that instead his capabilities be enhanced so that he could fulfill his agenda within that age. Since Qadri did not give any handout apropos of his life thereafter so according to his own claim he should have been dead long ago since he is older than sixty six years.
So Qadri is an imposture king.

Absolutely, TUQ is an impostor. No doubt about that. Which brings us back to who is behind the guy. The latest one has gleaned is threefold: MQM and its Altaf B. might have concocted the whole thing. With or without army help remains unclear. But then add to that the unhearladed Arrival in Pakistan of a Us Senate Armed Services Committee Delegation in Pakistan at this time. Also a TTP Statement they are not planning to attack the projected Long March. Draw your own conclusions.

A blogger, Mr. Mohammad Saleem floated his opinion that if Military takes over the government under the existing chaos, Pakistan would stay under Military Rule for ever.
    Here is the response from
    Mr. Shaukat Jamil:
Your apprehension that if army comes next time, it will not never go is not true because as a sequel thereto no country in the name of Pakiistan will exist on the face of the earth. We should not denigrate the fair name of Pak Army. The plight we are in has been brought about by a gang of unscrupulous generals I have nicknamed mafia in uniform ( MIU ). Let us refresh our mind as to the antecedents of this mafia.
When Pakistan came into being MIU was licking her chops for she rightly figured that her time had come. There were a few obstacles which could be easily cleared. For a start MIU scientifically assassinated Jinnah by depriving him the medical aid he urgently needed by not taking him to hospital till such time he breathed his last as she did in the case of Murtaza Bhutto who was waited in the car after attack till such time he died. As per her wont as we found out in coming time, she laid the charge of Jinnah assassination at Liaquat s door who was next on hit list ala Mard-e Hur in Murtaza s case.MIU feared Jinnah most because he was out to give a secular constitution to Pakistan in the style of Ata Turk.If it had happened the democracy would have succeeded as in Turkey and Pakistan would have been by now the Pride of South Asia as according to a UN report Pakistanis are the fifth most intelligent people of the world whereas Americans are sixth and Indians are thirteenth. After Jinnah, MIU conspired against democracy by making Pakistan an Islamic state in lieu of a Muslim state.Since Islam and democracy can not co-exist so the failure of democracy was definitive. To further aggravate, the MIU inducted and promoted corrupt men like Nawaz Sharif in politics to besmirch the name of politicians and to divert the people s attention from the corruption done by her blue-eyed boy, she framed false cases against people like Mard-e Hur and tried them in kangaroo courts.
MIU engendered another mafia to help her cause by way of Jamaat-e Islami which later on proliferated into MMA and which I have nicknamed mafia in beard (MIB ). Who can forget the services of Maudoodi in bringing down Nazimuddin s govt.that freed Ayub off the hook since he faced trial for Liaquat s assassination. Ayub s rule alienated Bengalis from Pakistan that ultimately resulted in the secession of eastern wing. MIU did her best to shuffle off the charge of secession on PPP but people rejected it by voting PPP into power.
People say once bitten twice shy so the MIU having been bitten by Awami League in East Pakistan funks the same fate at the hands of PPP here. So she has not lost an opportunity to harm PPP. When she is caught in cul-de-sac she breaks out by assassination. That is why PPP has so many martyrs while the others have none.Any one acting to the detriment of MIU faces extermination.
MIU s bete noir is Mard-e-Hur. She had to eat crow times without number after the flunk of every intrigue at the hands of Mard-e-Hur. Now she is pursuing another childish adventure through Qadri. While finalizing this cock-eyed undertaking the following obvious points have been missed:-
1-In politics like cricket, timing is the most important factor. Mohd. Tughluq despite being a genius failed because of his unseasonable intellectuality. To talk of army rule and totalitarian govt. is out of season now-a-days. Count the number of dictatorships that have bitten the dust in recent times. Iraq, Libya, Egypt etc. How could Pakistan where democracy is already at work could fall back upon the practice forsaken long ago. What military rule has given to Pakistan? Secession, narcotics, terrorism, sectarianism.gun running.power shortage, corruption, elitism and worst of all, dictatorship.Zardari has proved that he in his lonesome has more wisdom than the collective wisdom of MIU.That is why MIU is after his blood. Whenever MIU fails in her nefarious designs she breaks away by way of assassination. Running of govt. is a serious matter. How the intellectually bankrupt and corrupt in all senses of the word ,generals could be put in charge of it and that too with absolute powers?
Presently the nation is geared to the election and it is the most inopportune time to throw a spanner in the works of election commission by way of Qadri. Going through with this stratagem against all odds evinces how desperate the MIU is after her failure to cobble together another IJI.
This counsel of despair I assure you will not go through. Qadri is a fly on the wheel and cannot cause an upheaval hoped for by the MIU. Mark the helplessness of those who are leaning on him.
2- Uncle Sam has a an abiding interest in the region because of Zaalimans scourge. MIU and Zaalimans are hand and glove under the rose and Uncle Sam knows it.MIU gave shelter to Asama and who knows she might be guarding bigwigs of Zaalimans even at this point of time. Uncle Sam is not a spring chicken to be taken for a ride. So he will never acquiesce in a coup detat under any circumstances and if the MIU brings in one under any guise in defiance of Uncle Sam then the the nation should clench her teeth in anticipation of seeing action replay of the drama enacted in Paltan Maidan Dacca. So it will not happen.
Pkistan needs secularism, socialism, democracy ,fundamental rights.nationalism, urdu, family planning and technocracy. If I had resources I would have launched my own political party with this manifesto. There is not a single party in the country who has a manifesto anywhere near this save PPP so I have no option except supporting PPP. I am in the know of the marvels of democracy and believe that these marvels will even edify the worst nation of the world even though she is practising the crippled form of democracy i.e democracy without fundamental rights. I mean Iran.
We should not exult that we are far removed from Iran. Islam depresses fundamental rights but is not averse to it downright. I believe that fudamental rights can be worked into Islam by Ijtehad. Without fundamental rights democracy is a dud.
3-We need to revisit our textbooks and expurgate all the works of pseudo intellectuals like Iqbal and Maudoodi. No writing has harmed Pakistani nation more than Iqbal s versification especially the so-called philosophy of Khuddi. It is the most pernicious and reactionary idea ever enunciated on this earth. While a third class poet as he was he has been extolled to the sky by the MIU solely for the reason that he was averse to democracy and he advocated blending of politics with religion , a sure- fire recipe for the failure of the two and ensuing into an army rule.
My father was a great exponent of English,Persian and Urdu poetry. As a a school goer I once asked him to distinguish between Ghalib and Iqbal and he replied that almost everything Ghalib wrote is true and progressive while almost everything written by Iqbal is false and reactionary. The most dangerous aspect of Iqbal s versification is that it holds a sentimental appeal for Muslims with low intellectual status which majority of Muslims are. At least the children should be spared of this intellectual poison.
To all those who hate my ideas I request to keep this crippled democracy going in Pakistan. This inadequate democracy, in the process of time working upon them who see rosy things in military rule subtly would bring on a change of heart in them slowly and imperceptibly because democracy is endowed with not only that virtues that can be logically derived but also many others that inhere in it occultly. This is an age rising nationhood. Everyone, even in the jungle without human rights wants entity, to be heard, to be considered important. Only democracy can give it. So give a boot to Qadri the ass-licker of MIU.

So, JS Sahib, Finally it was all about the greatness of PPP, which of course is contrary to any beliefs I might hold. I should have known from the start. Anyway, it was still interesting to have read him, though there's not much agreement left in my views and his, except as regards the sudden appearance of TUQ which has little or no justification, seeing that we were getting closer and closer to a General Election and, from the look of it, everyone was willing to play by the rules. Strangely enough, SJ's mention of Ijtehad carried echoes of similar rhetoric on the part of TUQ himself. And once again I'll be forced to repeat: a one-man Ijtehad is self-defeating.

    a one-man Ijtehad is self-defeating.
    Dear AI
Can you explain why a one-man Ijtehad is self-defeating?
Sapere aude is a Latin phrase meaning Have the courage to make use of your own mind!"

As far as I know, ijtehad should have been the means through which Muslim communities kept up with the modern world. By the very nature of things, such a practice requires consultation and coordination between the various sects in Islam to succeed. We are not like the Catholics with their one-man head of the Church. So it not enough that one person alone decides he's going to reform and update the faith. He must be in a position to bring the majority over to his side as well if ijtehad is really to be applied.

Philosophy 101 question, Can one person be right about something when the rest of the world can be wrong on it. The emphasis should be on what is right. How many people are on board with the idea is not important.
If one’s theological assumptions about reality are incorrect, can one recover from them if these assumptions have been dogmatized and made pillars of one’s faith?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogma
the average Muslim may beas unaware of the teachings of medieval-era Islamic thinkers like al-Ashari and al-Ghazali as the average Christian is of the teachings of Augustine and Aquinas. If asked which Islamic theological school he belongs to, the Muslim man in the street may not know whether he is an Ash‘arite or a Maturidite, any more than the Christian would know if he is an Augustinian or a Thomist. This, however, does not mean that the respective Muslim and Christian are any less under the influence of the ideas of these thinkers. Despite such lack of awareness, philosophical, metaphysical, and theological issues ultimately determine how daily concerns are addressed; indeed, they even determine what these concerns are. What may seem abstruse theological points can have the most practical and devastating consequences.

How do you do ijtehad to fix this problem?

    Posted 4 months ago #
  14. Allama Iqbal

Just the first part of your response for now: You went on a philosophical tangent, whereas I was only thinking along practical terms, i.e. if you want to influence Muslims as a whole, best if you can achieve some sort of consensus thinking among them so changes can occur. Otherwise you might influence a small group only and thereby create yet another sect to be added to the ones already existing.

But no doubt your text is right to state that "philosophical, metaphysical, and theological issues ultimately determine how daily concerns are addressed; indeed, they even determine what these concerns are. What may seem abstruse theological points can have the most practical and devastating (?) consequences."

The so-called long march has thankfully ended without any loss of life and limb with democracy unscathed. The mafia in uniform (MIU ) who was the primum mobile of this aborted activity is in a trepidation as the sands run out. The MIU knows pretty well that it is now or never situation so far as their arrogation of power is concerned. If the govt. succeeds in holding transparent elections and transferring power to next govt. then the doors for acceding to power on MIU would be closed for a long time.
Since Imran card had already been played and no known person who could be used to upset the apple-cart of the govt. was at hand so the MIU decided on Qadri. Qadri who is well known to do any pious fraud for power, pelf and publicity was invited to create such law and order problem in the sensitive area of Islamabad that may warrant takeover by MIU under the doctrine of necessity. Obviously some sop must have been promised to Qadri. On the other hand to win back the heart of Uncle Sam without whose acquiescence it could not be attained, the MIU made a volte-face to make a show of embracing the philosophy of Uncle Sam echoing that the war against terrorism was Pakistan s own war and that the country faced no peril from her eastern border while all danger to her security emanated from the west.In her conceit the MIU thought that Uncle Sam was a spring chicken so he could be taken for a ride with this about-turn.
But to the dismay of the MIU, Uncle Sam proved too clever for her. He called upon India to do some velitations in Kahsmir to serve the following objectives:-
1-To remind MIU the year 1971 When she, while attempting to crush democracy, came to grief.and ended up by laying down arms
2- It gave the lie to her new-found philosophy that the eastern border was safe thereby losing whatever esteem she might still be having in the eyes of the populace.for her , inability to comprehend the reality.
There is not much difference between a maulvi and a lawyer. One interprets the religion and the other law with a bias to suit his ends. Both are voluble and are concerned with winning the case even at the expense of truth.Any one who does not demur to sacrifice truth to win eclat is a criminal in white collar. So almost all lawyers and maulvis belong with this caboodle of criminals. Both are regarded intellectuals by their clients but they are not. No wonder if you read the list of a thousand great men of all the time, there will be not a single cleric or a lawyer in it. So we find not much difference between Qadri and Iftikhar Chauhdry. Both are trying to excel each other in serving the MIU in the hope that at some point in time their services would be rewarded. While both of them are eying the interim PMship. While neither of them has any chance of success but both will go to any limit of shamelessness in the hope against hope. Both have nothing to lose in this game of intrigue and cunning because both are shame proof.
If someone asks me to expound the motif of the book titled Satanic Verses I shall explicate it as hereunder:-
An actor plays disparate roles in his career that may be poles apart from one another. He may be a king in one and pauper in the other; teacher in one student in the other but if you look deeply below the makeup and trappings you find the same man.So if we examine the famous people of the history born at different times and cast in different roles by the force of circumstance searchingly, then we find that the personalities of so many people are identical with each other born at different times and in different roles.Since I am in total agreement with Rushdie on this point so I do not demur using this philosophy on persons around extensively. I find Iftikhar Chauhdry and Qadri one personality in disparate roles.
After the unsuccess of memo. scandal the MIU turned jittery in view of shortage of time. So she pulled out another rabbit out of the hat randomly for plan B which happened to be Qadri. The plot was to appease Uncle Sam with unctuousness and then mount an assault on the sensitive area of Islamabad through Qadri. Get a few persons killed and then employ the trick so successfully rehearsed in Quetta. Ad interim till the govt yields, keep the rampant posture towards the sensitive area of Islamabad thereby leaving govt. with only two options. One to take Lal Masjid like action and get routed in the next elections or to give way to Qadri s demands that may include his nomination as the caretaker PM. But MIU made a howler in estimating the clout and strength of Uncle Sam.Firstly he is too clever to be deluded by the idiots of GHQ.Secondly, by dint of continual briefing by the govt. he was up-to-the-minute with the smallest development in the situation.
To stop the designing generals of MIU in their tracks Uncle Sam played the Indian card which the idiot generals could not foresee while drawing out the intrigue, which rang the bell for surrender in Dhaaka and wetted the pants of GHQ. Seeing the tables overturned the opposition saw her chance to climb up the bandwagon which aggravated the pressure on MIU.Consequently an SOS went to Qadri to end the drama, As an obedient servant he did not even request for face-saving and declared the drama close. But the MIU has never been that callous to leave her minions in the lurch and thus came the so-called Islamabad Declaration.
This fiasco is the greatest victory of the democratic forces over the totalitarian forces in the history of Pakistan which has been potentiated what with the sagacity of the govt. and with the assistance of Uncle Sam. It is a day of mourning for MIU not because she has been routed but because it betokens the end of the road for the MIU for this term of democratic govt. at least. It also quaked the castles of adventurers like Ifiikhar Chauhdry etc.who had staked the shirt off his back to get some wages for the unremitting role played by him for the success of MIU. Now it is all over barring shouting. I do not expect the dog s tail to straighten at one reverse howsoever crushing it may be and the mug s game may continue till election but the MIU has lost her Waterloo.

So Shaukat Jamil with a flourish finally revealed the bottom line: Zardari and US are our saviours, the army and its latest stooge TUQ, our enemies. Well, so be it. As long as Jamil Sahib is pleased with his arguments, who are we to quarrel with him?

However, give the devil his due, I did like his acknowledgement that the army, usually tight-lipped, for reasons that still escape me, suddenly made that sweeping statement about where its new priorities lay, whereupon India promptly (encouraged by saviour US) started making trouble on our borders. Perhaps US might also have been giving us the message: Hands off our own agents within Pakistan?

Some philosphical rambling and we came to the excellent conclusion that the CJ and TUQ were blood Brothers. Well, full marks for imagination, say I.

And now my own experience of the good cop, bad cop scenario. Rahman Malik threatens to carry out a targeted Operation against the Demonstrators. Oh, notin the Lal Masjid style, Oh, no. something much gentler though no less effective. And even as we're all trembling in our boots, Najam Sethi (a man I couldn't stand, but have suddenly grown to appreciate over his analysis of present events) receives a phone call from President Zardari saying no violence would occur. Well, thank you for that. But the ploy was transparent. And if this is what great leadership is all about, then let's Hand over our government to the next kissan we meet. He'll make a better job of it no doubt.

So the MIU lost its Waterloo? Well, how about their winning the Battle of Stalingrad?

    Latest From Mr. Shaukat Jamil:
A few days back I chanced to see clips of Qadri apropos of his dreams wherein at some points he wept uncontrollably by the intensity of emotions. If it was histrionics then he has talent enough to win an Oscar. But it was not. He wept in honest- to- God emotions of awe and ecstasy Since what he was describing was patently non -existent so he is a hallucinant.
In 1968 while posted at Dalbandin a town situate at Quetta Taftan (Iran ) railway line inside 165 miles in Pak. territory I had a clerk who was similar but I did not know about it. One day he came to me and said what should be done with two corpses in the inspection bungalow. I rushed to the place but found nothing there. When I went back to office another official told me that this clerk had a nasty habit of spreading sensational false rumours. As a student of psychology I questioned the clerk at length and found that while talking he would slip into his phantasy world for a few seconds and would come back to the world of reality and the transition was so smooth that in the film of the memory the phantasy would become its integral part. So any time you question about the issue the reality would invariably emerge with phantasy as an organic whole. Once in the know of his aberration I could get along with him. Mansoor s UNAL HAQ is a case in point.I am told that the divide between reality and phantasy vanishes if a person repairs to long sessions of contemplation and solitude. The psychologists say that all so- called prophets evolved this aberration by thinking hard in long stretches of time. So in religious parlance Qadri is a stunted prophet though the psychiatrist may call him a psychopath ala all prophets.
What I purport to add is that we should instead of launching a tirade against him should deal by him compassionately taking him as a paranoid.
