From the Desk of Mr. Shaukat Jamil:

Tahir-ul-Qadri the self-exiled hot gospeller is returning next Sunday. His Mihajul Quran movement is as organised as any mafia in the country so he can expect a tumultuous reception. In fact every single mafioso of his movement is expected to be waiting to join in the welcome . Since I have the misfortune of being his neighbour so I know almost the whole gamut of his cunning. It was for people like him that Ghalib said:-
Apna nahin woh shaiwah keh aaram sey baithein
Oos dur peh nahin bar to Kaabey he ko ho aaye
(Its not in our trait that we sit back, once we got no response from that door we went round up to Kaaba.)
Tahir-ul- Qadri s real demiurge is power and pelf. He knew that this was the most difficult god to propitiate so he taking a leaf from Mirza Ghulam Ahmad s book started out as a preacher of Islam. This is the easiest way to become famous provided one is capable of shredding ones neckline while sermonizing. Since he owned this ability so he burst on the scene like a shooting star. Since then he has crossed a number of milestones the latest is Sheikh - ul- Islam. He flew a kite by his party contesting elections on a few seats. He lost election on every seat and so he moved away from politics. When BB (Shaheed) s govt.was dismissed once again and PP was crushed in rigged elections she decided to forge an alliance. Tahir-ul-Qadri demanded the position of president of alliance which was granted.
In the ensuing public meetings under the alliance, Qadri chanced to address well- attended meetings He thought that the people thronged to listen to him and not BB (Shaheed) which turned his head. He demanded of BB (Shaheed) to nominate him as the next president of Pakistan or face ouster from alliance.Eventually the alliance was broken up. Thereafter, having been puffed up by huge response under the alliance which he thought were his supporters, he convoked a public meeting outside Mochi Gate which flunked out After the failure of this meeting another public meeting was called at Islamabad which too, went the way of Mochi gate meeting. Having found the grapes sour he declared politics an anathema.
With the emergence of Musharaf, Qadri saw a break and became an ardent supporter of him.But when Musharaf disappointed him he foreswore politics. Now he is coming with a different intent. He wants to be a primum mobile of Khomeini type revolution.Revolution means sanguinary politics while democracy denotes bloodless politics. Democracy is a stock-in- trade of politics of the people who are barely civilized. And who are barely civilized? Those who respect fundamental rights. In Islam there are no fundamental rights. But fundamental rights can inhere in Islam because they do not militate against the canons of Islam. In Islam there is a provision of IJTEHAD i.e to bring in new ideas by dialectical consensus. Islam does not empower anyone howsoever learned he may be to do IJTEHAD by one s lonesome. I had an opportunity to listen to a sermon by one of Qadri s lieutenant recently. The sermonizer after a long eulogy of Qadri informed us of the innovations made by him in Islam. He said the Islamic monotheism is not acceptable in Islam unless it comes through the understanding and the agency of Prophet and the belief in the finality of Prophethood is not acceptable unless it comes via understanding and the agency of Ali. My servant tells me it is KUFR (infidelity ) and Qadri is a renegade and Zaaliman s intent against him is according to book. As of me I regard this novelty a gimmick to attract Shiites in his mafia and totally devoid of authenticity vis a vis Islamic jurisprudence, as he alone is not competent to do IJTEHAD.
Let us see what future holds for Qadri in the wake of neoteric slogan of Riasat not Siasat. Firstly, this slogan is too complex to be understood vis a vis Roti, Kapra and Makan and much less attractive for a punter. Secondly, hoi polloi are resentful of all Maulvis sequel to Zaaliman s activities. Unlike Khomeini who had a free run of the country Qadri will have to fight it out with other mafias in beard (MIB ) which is not that easy. His credentials and record vis a vis other MIB s is ordinary. In politics the timing is the most important factor. Now the nation is more or less decided on election and to talk revolution is out of season at this point of time. Qadri is not a respected man among the clerics and his IJTEHAD will draw down flak from all religious quarters. I do not think his IJTEHAD will attract much admiration from even Shiites. On top of it Pakistan is a country which was under British rule who not only set up a modern governance of the people but set up a modern system of education that imparts logical and scientific thinking to the people. Pakistan has seen a number of elections albeit rigged. So despite all failings it is the most go-ahead nation among the Muslim world. It is poles apart from Iran. So any analogy from Iran would be out of place in Pakistan. See what is happening in Egypt. Those very people who voted an Islamic party into power have turned against her when the president tried to don caliph s powers.People want democracy and in democracy a maulvi howsoever exalted he may be is a toothless tiger because it is the govt of the people not the govt of the maulvis. The critical thing in democracy is fundamental rights. True there are no fundamental rights in Iran but Iran and Saudi Arabia are the two most backward Muslim States. But pressure is increasing on them for the promulgation of fundamental rights and how long they endure it will be seen. So Qadri is trying to swim against the tide and is bound to drown.
The cunning Qadri and his henchmen may build castles in Spain but here only a failure is in wait for them.

Good article. Some of the Points made were most instructive: that about TUQ being inspired by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and, even more to the Point, the comparison with Ayatollah Khomeiny

I do, however object to the Statement that Iran and Saudi Arabia are the two most backward Muslim States. It may be true of KSA, but certainly not of Iran. In any case, being backward or advanced is a relative Notion.

Also, goes without saying, a one-man Ijtehad is self-defeating.

All the best and hope things are well with the Bloggers here.

I would agree that Iran belongs in a different league from KSA. Also true there are no fundamental rights in Iran

Thanks lota. About fundamental rights, I find them so flawed the world over that I can't even begin to call one country backward compared to another. But come 2013, perhaps all this might just about begin to improve.

And so to my fondest New Year wishes to you and your Family. Also to all the other members of this Forum. May you lack for nothing by way of health, wealth or prosperity throughout the next twelve months and beyond.

I value the fundamental human rights as the most precious thing in the universe. I share your concern when it comes to the absence of fundamental rights and like you see every system as flawed that does not deliver them whichever it maybe. Iran gets an F in the deliverance of fundamental rights.
Thank you for the nice wishes. I wish all the best to you and your family.

    From Shaukat Jamil:
I have always believed that those who can not find a position in civil services go to army. So I figured that a man in uniform is a cut above a mediocrity and can not hold a candle to his civilian counterpart. But over the last five years having seen MIUs one intrigue after the other coming apart owing to lack of intellectual content and deep planning coupled with innocence of practical wisdom I am convinced that I have not been very far from truth in my conceit. This Qadri rumpus, a pis aller, in the final analysis, may turn out a storm in a teacup.
Since Nawaz had turned notorious for corruption, the MIU intrigued to cobble together another IJI around Imran and I gave out there and then that it would be a fiasco since neither Imran nor Nawaz would settle for anything less than PM. So the inevitable happened and the MIU had to dump this enterprise. Now MIU wants some time to hatch a new machination so she wants the deferment of impending election ad interim. With a plenty of boodle in the banks, Qadri a la true Muslim, took to a new wife in Canada and was luxuriating la dolca vita in the afternoon of life when an SOS from MIU arrived. Since the call appealed to his ruling passion so he left everything to rush back.
Qadri is a known and despised man among the masses.Since I have the misfortune of his neighborhood so I can confidently say that if he contests an election from our constituency, he will lose. Now to charge such a man with the responsibility of upsetting the applecart of democracy when the nation is geared to next elections shows the desperation of the MIU. Altaf is said to be on tenterhooks because of the inquiry of murder of Dr. Imran Farooq and London Police is said to have found some link between his assassins and Altaf. The capo Altaf wants to run away from London to some hideout in Pakistan which only MIU can provide if she is in power. Her previous adventure apropos of Assama came a cropper because she was not in power and the sitting govt. s collaboration with US brought the undertaking to the disastrous end. So Altaf would do any thing that goes to wind up democratic dispensation. Thus his reaction is well understood.
With backdrop spread out we can extrapolate further development of this venture. ( N ) League has the largest stakes after PPP in democracy. Though their reaction as to how Punjab Govt.will acquit herself with the impending "Long March" is still unknown but it is obvious she will oppose it.Apart from a small section of vested interests the populace is opposed to derailment of democracy. Qadri has changed his stance as to the objective of their march a number of times and their latest is that they want the govt of their choice ad interim who can give such results in the election that Zia the hypocrite called positive. In a word Qadri in cahoots with MQM and MIU, wants to browbeat govt. to accede to to the rigged elections by the agency of the caretakers cherry picked by MIU or face the winding up of the democratic process.
Pitted against this goondaism is PPP along with other democratic forces of the country. But MIU does not give two hoots to all such forces since she believes only in Machtpolitic. But the hard problem for MIU is uncle Sam who is up to snuff apropos of her whole gamut of intrigue. The MIU already had a taste of Uncle Sam s ire on restoration of NATO supply route so she wants to take over power in an engineered revolution.
Since MIU lacks the intellect to solve the equation given by me at subject so as a professional engineer I have decided to solve it for her and the answer is Delta X which means infinitesimal. So it is going to be another instance of 100 stripes and 100 onions which the MIU is quite used to these days.
In the end a few words for Imran.Presently he has been left in the cold as the MIU has taken on a new tack.H e himself has made a few political mistakes. He has departed from his founding war cry for the party by taking a few Lotas in his fold and by associating with the scum of politics named Sheikh Rashid.Though his stock has plummeted considerably but all is not lost. Firstly he should quickly distance himself from Sheikh Rashid etc. Then he should forget about support from MIU.By now he would have got wise to the fact that MIU is no ones friend. She has her own axe to grind and uses every person as a tool for it. If he stays firm ( N ) League will be marginalized and he will become the main opposition and govt. one day.
Last but not the least a word of wisdom from ZAB.In 1973 the opposition launched a movement against his govt.and he said o somebody tell these fools that the movements run but they can not be run. If people gathered at some place and changed the govt in some country it happened so because the people were doing it on their own But here the people are being gathered by stupid generals so this movement will end up like ín 1973

JS Sanib, I'll be back a bit later with a comment on the latest offering by Shaukat Jamil. No time now, but definitely a question before I go: what is MIU? Have never seen this acronym before? What I do see, however, is that S. Jamil seems to dislike TUQ, the hypocrite, as much as I do. So we are like-minded on this one. Have a good day.

JS Sahib. I still don't understand what or who MIU should be. Thought it might mean Made in US, but then the US and Uncle Sam are also used in other contexts, so it seems I must be wrong.

In any case, from what I've understood about MQM's Altaf, I think the writer might well have hit the nail on the head as regards the alliance made with TUQ. His info on TUQ was also precious as were his remarks on PMLN. The one Thing I found confusing was his great hatred for Sheikh Rashid whom I find a man of integrity and worth. But then he no doubt knows things about S.R. of which I'm not aware. Anway, this article, however mysterious in the final Analysis, was better than many we were given to read elsewhere in the written media.

    Allama Sahib,

    MIU is Mafia in Uniform.
I guess Mr. Jamil uses 'MUI' for military establishment.

Thanks for the Explanation, JS Sahib. I'd never have guessed it on my own. Right so if it's the Military Establishment, what exactly they hope to gain by causing yet another rumpus in Pakistan is not clear to me. as things stand, a take over on their part seems to be out of the question. So what should it be all about.

Regarding Dr Qadri himself, one thing must be said: he's fed our imaginations splendidly. His coupling with the army has been hinted at by many people already, including Shaukat Jamil, he is openly allied with MQM. There have been whispers of his Meeting up with PMLN as well. And yesterday, Bolta Pakistan seemed to Claim that he was President ZardARI'S secret weapon against Nawaz Sharif. So finally what will it be? Revolution on January 14 or a return to Canada and the end of yet another Topi Drama?
