Is it not strange that there are so many conspiracy theories around the murder of a leader who before she was killed clearly named those she suspected of being a threat to her security?

Certainly the UN commission probing her death asked why no one even questioned those named by the victim. On October 16, 2007, two days before her historic homecoming, Benazir Bhutto wrote a letter to then-president Pervez Musharraf naming these very people.

In it she named Brigadier Ejaz Shah (a former ISI official and director-general of the Intelligence Bureau), Lt- Gen (retd) Hameed Gul (director-general of military intelligence under General Ziaul and director-general of the ISI during Bhutto’s first tenure as prime minister) and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Both Shah and Elahi were very close to Musharraf and by writing to him, Bhutto could only hope that he would rein in his friends. However, according to the UN inquiry her letter was not taken seriously by the interior ministry when it responded by saying that the threats she has mentioned had no “tangible basis”.

I agree with above comment and may not fully agree with the article as such. Conspiracy theories always gets into the air after every incident. Doubtful actions always provide fuel to such theories and general public need satisfying answers for all the questions raised by the 'conspirators'. Under current case, 'conspirators' of media just filled the gap deliberately being vacated by the 'couragous and devoted' Rehman and Babar. What ever some body may write or express to defend them but point was duly picked by the UN report itself and was widely condemned by the PPP serious and senior members as well, so defending them would be futile just by putting the blame on few mediamen. Rehman's own three to four media interviews right after BB's killing were contradictory to his own statement from another. Instead they should gather enough audacity (unlike the day of BB's assasination) and give a detail explanation as to 'WHY' for their actions. One must remember and take into account, the fact, that PPP circles have serious reservations about this act and need very serious and earliest replying from the relevant quarters. Now new stories of Rehman are on the air that he tried to be the president or Governor Punjab and also the 'escape goat' by disclosing the swiss accounts of Zardari in 2001. It is still a defamatory tiding and tactic but if any senior PPP member confirms the news then we will see another turmoil in the making within PPP and all the guns will be turned on to him. These are few bomb shells awaiting blast which will further harm the structure of current party. Instead of simplying denying or avoiding the facts, PPP should come out with strong determination for the search of real conspirators and then killers of BB.

No doubt, already dead BB could not be brought to life even if there were10 backup vehicles. But what is the harm in conducting a full flege enquiry by a Judicial Commission who could call every person including Rehman Malik, Babar Awan and even the president who is the main beneficiary of this tragic incident. This is the only way to proof if Ansar Abbasi, Tariq Butt and Shahid Masood etc are on wrong path

yes, iwas looking live channels at that time(outside pk).the nature of wound itself suggest that MBB died within seconds,no question about it. Realistically even 10 back up cars cant save already dead person. their (butt n ansar) main aim is to divert the original investigation. definitely ,suicide bombing shows extremist elements are also involved also. in addition doctors had changed the medical report. they should be investigated.
